Affenpinscher is passionate, smart and a very good indoor dog. The name suggests that the dog is resembles a monkey. The main reason he was bred was to catch rats. Actually, the general appearance of the dog is neat. After several years, they moved up the ladder to turn into a woman’s companion.

Some books indicate that the rearing of this dog dates back to 17th century but reliable sources indicates 19th century. Even though he originated from Germany, he was used mostly in central Europe. The reason they were welcomed in stables, homes, and farms is their capability of catching rodents. As time goes, the more intelligent ones attracted women and they started breeding them to be their companions.

These dogs are healthy, but just like any animal they can be attacked by ailments once in awhile. The most important thing to know is how to handle diseases. The most common diseases include patellar luxation, legg perthes diseases, hip dysplasia and heart murmurs. Make sure that the puppy you are purchasing as been cleared before you buy it. Overall, the dog does not fell sick more often especially if cared for well.

For the dog to mature strong, expose to people, environment, and situations and it will definitely learn well.

This dog likes a lot of adventure hence should be walked daily. It is in the middle of being between the house breed and the outdoor breed. The walks should be short since the dog is more or less and house dog. The head of this dog and the body balances well. He has rounded dark eyes that are located at the center of the face. Overall, the dog has a monkey’s expression.

The size of the dog is small. For instance, He is 9 to 11.5 inches in height and 6.5 to 13 pounds in weight.

  • Coat & Color :

Affenpinscher has a one-inch thick hair. This hair is not evenly spread as the hair in the buttock and the tail may be slightly shorter, while the hair at the legs, head and neck and chest longer. For the dog to have good hair, it requires little modification to make it look good. In terms of color, the dog comes in variety of colors for instance black, grey, white, tan, silver and even a mixture of these colors. Colors in the game are not considered as the main colors of the dog.

  • Grooming :

The overall appearance of the dog is shag but neat and to maintain this kind of appearance they should be brushed weekly. In the process of brushing, you can use your fingers to break any entangled hair. Some people would prefer to make work easier by spraying the dog with detangle spray first before brushing. Grooming Affen dog requires much patience and both of you will be very happy. Lastly make sure you trim the nails and brush its teeth 3 times in week.

The amount of food that the dogs will consumes will depend on the size and the age of the dog. The key thing is to make sure that the food is balanced. He should be given ¼ to ½ cup of high quality dog dry dog food two times in day.
