Cesky Fouseks are gun dogs who are great at hunting and chasing in fields, water and even upland. These dogs have now become popular as pets because of their easy going nature and extremely loyal attitude towards their owners. These are strong animals that require a firm master, they are friendly and when socialized well from their childhood they are good with kids and other pets.
History and Health :
- History :
The origin of the breed dates back as early as the 14th century. They are believed to have been gifted by Emperor Charles IV to Margrave Ludwig in 1348. These were hunting dogs with great agility and speed. Their fame soon spread outside the Czech border and the Czech kennel club named them as Cesky Fousek in 1896. This breed was threatened with extinction somewhere in the 1920s but was then carefully bred back to its current state of abundance.
- Health :
The Cesky Fousek is a breed that has been administered and fostered with great deliberation and care. Diligent breeders have done their utmost to ensure that this dog suffers from almost no hereditary or genetic defects. These are very hearty and healthy dogs that can thrive on activity. Alopecia and Canine Hip Dysplasia are the only issues which can rarely afflict this breed.
Temperament and Personality :
- Personality :
A Cesky Fousek is a hunter dog with the strength and agility required for this occupation. However, they adapt very well to being human companions and are very affectionate towards their owners. They are also great with kids.

Cesky Fousek is a hunting breed that is used to be on the go from morning to night each and every day. Thus, these are no slackers but extremely active dogs that can do well only with very active families. They are best suited for those given to hiking or jogs on a daily basis. If not a jog then atleast a long walk is mandatory every day. The dog needs to be exercised a minimum of twice a day and should ideally be provided with a well fenced backyard that has enough room for it to run about. The fence should be around 6 ft tall and should be embedded deep in the ground as these dogs can be excellent escapists when left to their own devices.
- Trainability :
A more willing to please breed than Cesky Fousek would be hard to find. These dogs are very keen to follow their masters and are as such exceptionally easy to train.
